Marcus Garvey Village Extension is a Finalist for the Urban Land Institute Terwilliger Center Award
Urban Land Institute selected Marcus Garvey Village Extension as a Finalist for the 2024 Terwilliger Center Award for Innovation in Attainable Housing! This award recognizes unique yet replicable developments that offer or preserve deeper affordability.
Marcus Garvey Extension Phase I was selected for modeling the sustainable development of large all-electric geothermal multifamily affordable housing. Building on the legacy of Marcus Garvey Village, the 1970s New York State Urban Development Corporation complex designed by Ken Frampton, the Extension’s courtyards link to the Village’s unique network of mews, creating a walkable community. The project demonstrates an environmentally and socially responsible approach to building urgently needed affordable housing.
Congratulations to the whole team: L+M Builders Group, GACE Consulting Engineers, Skyline Engineering, Starr Whitehouse Landscape Architects, Sullivan Group Design, William Vitacco Associates, Steven Winters Associates, Tectonic Engineering, AKRF, and Montrose.
